Welcome to all the spellers that made the list. Good work on such a short week!

Riley Hospital

We are currently raising money for the Riley Children's Hospital. Kids can donate by bringing their money to class. I have an envelope to keep the money in. If a student brings a dollar he or she will put a slip of paper out in front of the office with his or her name on it.

Reviewing

Review, Review, Review. That seems to be the theme around here this week and next. We will begin taking the written response section of the test the following week. Remember this is only the first part of the test. The second part comes in early May which is the multiple choice.

Valentine's Day

Today, the class made envelopes to put their valentines inside. I told the kids we wouldn't have a party, but we will have time to pass them out at the end of the day. They should bring one for each student (27 students), and it is their option to write the names of each student or just sign them with their name.

Native American Project

The kids started their Native American project today. We began by assigning groups and handing out information. The students were given 10 things they have to look up and plan to present to the class using a visual aid. They will be making a poster with all the facts they are required to find. The five tribes that will be researched are the Shawnee, Potawatomi, Miami, Cherokee, and Kickapoo. Ask your child which one he or she is learning about.

Test Today and others

We took our Science Acuity test today. As a note to parents, this is a test for teachers to gauge where the students need help in specific areas of a subject.

Today we began working on measuring items from our desk (erasers, pencils, notebooks). We used the customary units of measuring (inches, feet, yards, and miles in discussion). We measured to the nearest whole inch. I explained if it was half inch to go up to the next inch. Most of the students showed no sign of needing extra support. If your child has a ruler he will need it tonight for homework.
